Belly Dance Skills and drills: 6:15-7:15 p.m. $5
This belly dance class will help to reinforce technique and various dance skills. During each class, students will be led through a variety of technique drills to assist in building stamina and fluidity. In addition, students will practice improvisational skills and musical interpretation. All levels welcome, including brand new beginners.
4th Friday of Month:
Drum/Dance circle: 6:15-7:15 p.m. $5 for dancers and drummers
Bring your hip scarf and/or a percussion instrument, and dress up if you like! Come jam with us! New students welcome. No spectators, please. Male and female participants welcome.
Recommended drum: doumbek/darbuka (a Middle Eastern goblet-shaped drum)

Intro to Belly Dance Workshop

Class will include a dance demonstration, lecture on history of belly dance, body image, and health, and introduction to basic belly dance technique. Students will also be given information on weekly belly dance classes in the Topeka area. After class, students will have the opportunity to sample and purchase belly dance supplies and costumes.

Zills of Insanity! Workshop and Open House w/Maya Zahira
Saturday, Sept. 20, 1:00-5:30 p.m.

Workshop from 2-5 p.m.
Shawnee Civic Center (Add address) Class will be held in the aerobics room on the lower level.
The first hour of this amazing 3-hour crash course will present students with the fundamentals of playing the finger cymbals (zills). Students will learn basic patterns, including 3’s, 5’s, singles, and the Beledi, Saidi, and Chifti-telli rhythms, all while executing basic belly dance moves. In the second hour, students will build on these skills by mixing the various zill patterns, executing more complex dance combinations, and learning to play quadruples. In the final hour, students will increase their zill-playing speed, and will practice advanced and unusual zill patterns that will impress any audience. Get ready for Zills of Insanity!
All levels welcome. No matter your level, brand-new beginner through advanced, you will benefit from this workshop! Handouts provided.
