Combo Workshop (1, 2, or 3 hours) This is our most popular seminar! It is perfect for corporate events, women’s gatherings, public library events, and more. This seminar includes the following choices:
A. Lecture in any or all of the following topics:
1. History and culture of belly dance
2. Health benefits of belly dance
3. Emotional and social benefits of belly dance, including issues of body image, self esteem, and Western society’s perceptions of beauty
4. Instructor’s personal involvement with belly dance (May include Maya Zahira’s personal transformation through belly dance, including 100 lb weight loss)
B. Demonstration
1. One or more dance demonstrations, 3 to 5 minutes in length, specifically focusing on the style of technique that will be taught in part three
2. Explanation of each demonstration, including country of origin, costume, culture, etc.
3. Demonstrations are performed in a casual costume, unless otherwise specified. Full costumed performances are optional at an additional cost.
C. Dance Technique: General basic technique is recommended for most groups. However, special topics/themes can be covered upon request, including the following: Belly Dancing with a Veil, Belly Dance Fast Moves, Romany Gypsy Belly Dance, and Tribal Fusion Belly Dance.
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement. Students may bring a large scarf to tie around the hips. Instructor will bring extra hip scarves to share.
Footwear: barefoot, ballet or jazz shoes, or dance sandals. No stocking feet, please.

Belly Dance Basics Workshop (2 hours) In this dance technique workshop, you’ll learn all the foundations of this ethnic dance form and get some great exercise. This class will include a brief lecture and demonstration of belly dance, and will focus primarily on basic dance isolations of the hips, rib cage, and arms, as well as simple turns, traveling steps, veil work, combinations, and choreography. Come join us for creative movement and exercise in a positive and fun setting!
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement. Students may bring a large scarf to tie around the hips. Instructor will bring extra hip scarves to share.
Footwear: barefoot, ballet or jazz shoes, or dance sandals. No stocking feet, please.

Belly Dance w/Veils (2 hours) Learn to create mystery, intrigue, and grace by belly dancing with a veil! Class will include instruction in basic veil manipulation, veil combinations, veil wraps, fun veil tricks and tips, plus exciting entrances and exits with the veil.
Instructor will provide veils to students.
Optional—Students may bring their own veil, any floaty fabric approximately 3 yds in length.

Belly Dance: Fast Moves (2 hours) Let the rhythms of belly dance move you! Learn to execute the fast percussive belly dance movements that make belly dance so exciting! Class will include a short dance demonstration, break-down and practice of percussive hip, pelvis, rib cage, stomach, and shoulder isolations, as well as fast shimmies and dance combinations.
Live drumming is sometimes available, extra charge for drummer fees

Belly Dance for Health, Fitness, and Weight Loss (1, 1 ½, or 2 hours) Instructor: Maya
Learn how belly dance can help you to improve your health and fitness level!
Looking for a new and different type of workout? Belly dancing is now a popular trend in exercise! In this workshop, you’ll get a total body workout. You’ll raise your heart rate, burn fat, and tone your muscles. This exercise-format class will include warm-up, break down of basic belly dance movements, traveling steps, shimmies, percussive hip work, abdominal and rib cage work, and sustained arm movements. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of students from beginner to advanced.
Options include:
1. Lecture discussing the health benefits of belly dance.
2. Instructor’s personal health transformation with belly dance.
3. Instruction in basic belly dance technique
4. Belly Dance combinations in a fun, upbeat, aerobics-style format! (modeled after our popular weekly class, Belly Dance Conditioning Workout)
